Last weekend saw Kuwait English School Students participate in the ACAMUN conference held at the American Creative Academy. The event took place over the course of three days, from the 17th to the 19th of November.
Our 50-strong delegation, engaged in three days of intense discussion, lobbying and debate, working in collaboration with fellow delegates to create and present resolutions focused on the theme of the conference ‘Until We Rise”- promoting a globalised community and greater co-operations among all countries in the world.
There were many highlights during the conference from the start to finish. 12 KES students won 12 official awards branding this one of our best performance to date. The awards ranging from Best Delegate to Best resolution was a testament to our student’s hard work and preparation prior to the conference. Similarly, each student had their own personal highlights and moments of breakthrough and achievement, from that first tentative question to the impassioned defense of a resolution in front of a class full of people. Obviously, all the awards, honorable mentions, the passing of any resolution or adding of amendment was greatly celebrated, but there also seemed to be an appreciation of the more intangible successes earned throughout the conference: an increased level of confidence; interacting with students from a variety of different backgrounds; realising the strength and value in their own voice and ideas.
As we now look forward to our next conference, we can rejoice in the fact that Kuwait English School is on the right path in producing young individuals who not only excel academically, but who are also keen to engage in debate to help make the world a better place for all of us; a true representation of the KES ethos.
